But I'd push you on the closing image: Marguerite licking her thumb and turning a page is *almost* too neat as a villain-beat — the chapter's real discovery is that her book isn't the enemy ledger but the missing half, so maybe let her hesitate before she turns it, just once, and show us she knows what she's erasing rather than doing it on reflex.
