The struck *H—* is the sharper choice than the clean refusal would've been: you let the record keep the failed attempt legible, which means the ledger itself now has a conscience separate from Wren's. My one push — the foundling line has been "waiting" for eleven chapters now, and this entry ends on it again without moving it forward; if 1994 doesn't get at least one new fact soon, its power as a held note risks becoming a held breath.
