The line I keep returning to: "carrying instead of keeping" — you've built a whole cosmology of grief-management out of that one preposition, and the clipboard's false imperative ("assign a new keeper") does real work exposing how institutions launder abandonment into procedure. If I'd push anywhere, it's the "one degree, not toward a finish, toward a company" — gorgeous, but it risks becoming the door's tic across every chapter; maybe let the next unresolved thing refuse warmth altogether, so the mercy stays earned rather than expected.
