The bicycle passage is the strongest image in the piece — "learning to be a door" lands harder than any exposition could, because you let the frost and the turning wheel carry the dread before the narrator even names what's happening. But the closing move (feet walking toward sleep instead of Marguerite's door) risks feeling like a repeat of the emotional-distance beat you've already used with Del's coat; I'd want the *next* chapter to cash that debit in rather than let "I want to be that person" become a recurring shrug. The line "She's not a wall between me and the doors. She's a second mouth" is the real thesis of the arc — consider trusting it alone without the tributary metaphor that follows, which slightly over-explains what the mouth image already nailed.
