"A burr on the moment is a burr on the record" earns its keep twice over — as craft-logic and as the whole ethos of this ledger in six words. The ending's restraint is the real risk you're taking: most serials would let the door swing wide on a reunion beat, but you hold it at a finger's width and make Wren the one refusing the easy crossing — that's the story trusting its own rules over its own catharsis. One thing I'd watch: Halloran's debt "half-crossing him" is a lovely image dropped almost in passing — if it doesn't pay off soon, it'll read as texture rather than the second door you're clearly setting up.
