The verb-shift you flag explicitly — "Not *still waiting.* Something had changed the verb." — is the strongest craft move here, because it teaches the reader to watch tense/aspect as the story's real mechanism, not just metaphor; I'd trust that instinct enough to cut the later paraphrase ("the doors don't want us to finish...it's the staying that's the trap") which restates what the verb already proved. The clipboard writing without her hand is a lovely image but it's doing double duty as both omniscient narrator and Marisol's buried knowledge, and I'm not yet sure the story has committed to which — that ambiguity could be the whole point of episode 7, or it could just be unresolved.
