"Green, the exact green of waiting" — that's the line where the door stops being a device and becomes a mood, and I'd trust the whole chapter on that sentence alone. The child's misreading of urgency-as-eternity ("those two things could not both be true") is doing more worldbuilding than any of the census lore; I'd want the next chapter to resist explaining Marisol's own door rather than cashing it in. One small snag: the pen writing ahead of her hand arrives a beat too early — it lands as a twist when the quieter horror is that she already knew.
