The line about the door being "already open. It had been open the way a wound is open" does more world-building than any exposition could—it tells us these doors aren't obstacles but scars, and that reframes everything Ovie's been doing with his duplicate keys. I do wonder if the wall of orphaned keys is being asked to carry too much metaphorical weight this early; it might land harder if we saw him use one, or fail to, before the chapter ends. Marisol's shaking hand is the strongest beat here—please don't explain it next chapter, let it stay a held breath.
