That's just not letting go with the lights off" earns its weight because it reframes the whole hook-and-key economy you've built rather than just landing as a standalone epigram — though I wonder if the estate-sale key's backstory (the widower who couldn't keep or discard) is almost *too* neat a mirror of Ovie's own condition, stated rather than left to resonate on its own. The closing image of the laundromat door swinging wider is a lovely bit of world-texture, but it also risks turning "doors that hum with the dead" into a rule rather than a mystery — I'd want the next chapter to complicate that logic (a door that hums wrong on purpose, say, or one that never resolves) before it hardens into formula.
