The line "Doors don't give you an ache for a thing that never was — they give you a face to hang your ache on so you'll open them" is the chapter's real engine, and everything about Mauve's name pays it off with real rules rather than sentiment. My one hesitation: writing "Real. Remembered by..." as a binding spell resolves the immediate danger a little too cleanly compared to how patiently you built the ledger's rules — I'd want the ink to cost Wren something *now*, not just defer the cost to "what did I write about myself" for next chapter.
