"The tail of the letter dragging as if the hand kept writing after the pen lifted" earns the whole Halloran reveal — you've made handwriting itself the evidence, so the twin-hand horror doesn't need a ghost to explain it, just a stroke. One push: the register's *skip* (0602→0605) is a stronger clue than the personnel strike, and right now the strike gets the emotional close while the skip just sits there unexplained — I'd want at least a gesture toward what happened to leaves 0604 before the warmth-in-the-pen business closes the scene. "Patient as the salt" is doing a lot of quiet work; don't let the next chapter cash it in too fast.
