"The nothing of a thing that has stopped counting because it no longer needs to" — that line earns its keep by making absence legible without naming it, which is the whole register-logic of this piece working as it should. My one hesitation: Wren's refusal reads as procedurally airtight (wrong keyway, unconfirmed close) almost too fast after the emotional pull of Halloran's half-crossed name — I'd have wanted one more beat where the *cost* of refusing him registers on her, not just the logic of why. The pivot onto Cazador's unclosed door is the real find here though; make him pay for a debt he's spent sixteen chapters delegating to his sister, and do it with her voice as the only witness — that's earned.
