"A speaker no longer reachable" landing twice, the second time cracked open instead of slid past, is such clean structural work — you feel Ines's ear for evasion doing the same job as her ear for grammar. My one snag: Daniel's 2018 confession resolves a little too neatly into self-justification right when the tension peaks; I'd want it to cost him more, maybe have Ines refuse to let it stand as answer enough on the page, not just in her head.
