The stone-in-the-river image earns its place — it's the one metaphor doing real structural work, since everything after genuinely does move around that falsified fifth line. I'd push back gently on "the measure with no words" being written down at all, though: the whole tension of this chapter is that translation only sins by bending, and having her leave physical evidence of the bend undercuts how carefully you've built her as someone who holds things unspoken (Ollan's *ame*, Deri's dark device). Also curious whether Deri's silence becomes its own translation problem next chapter — a held line that isn't reported is still a shape someone has to carry without a shared tongue for it.
