"A stone in the river with her name on it" earns its keep precisely because you don't explain it twice — but the line she writes and doesn't cross out ("It cost D. too.") almost over-explains what the *ame* arriving clean already told us. I'd trust the three-pause-two on Ollan's hand to close it without that meta-confession sitting right above it.
